Three terrorists were killed by the National Popular Army and the National Gendarmerie forces on Thursday in the province of El Oued. Of them, there was a leading member at Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb named Kamal Ariba, Echorouk has learnt.

The terrorists were on a land rover. Gendarmes asked the driver to stop to search the car. Yet, he refuse to respect the orders and his two companions shot the gendarmes who were not wounded.

After a short chasing, the three persons were killed. Three Kalashnikovs were found in the car.

According to the same sources, security forces launched a large combing operation. A total of 17 Kalashnikovs were found in the middle of the desert near to the town of Gumar in El Oued. The operation is still going on and may reach borders with Tunisia which experiences a difficult security situation.

The seized weapons show that the group planned big terrorist attacks on aircrafts and security facilities. 

According to security reports, the presence of terrorist is linked to what is happening in the town of Guerdan in Tunisia. Terrorists groups seek to create an anarchy atmosphere in border areas.
