Japan’s “Cojal” building company to sue Algeria before international justice
Algerian minister in charge of the relations with Parliament, Khelil Mahi, has affirmed that the reviewing of the travel allowance allotted each year to Algerians travelling abroad remains within the sole prerogative of the Bank of Algeria.
Replying to a an MP’s question at the people’s national Assembly or lower house of Parliament on behalf of prime minister Abdelmalek Sellal, Mr Mahi said such an issue had been tabled several times before parliament but with no decision taken to this effect notably regarding a much-awaited hike in this travel allowance which is now set at just 130 Euros per year for each Algerian travelling overseas.
He indicated that a final decision on the matter was strictly devolved upon the Bank of Algeria which is yet to address the issue at the request of the relevant authorities.
In a separate file, the public works minister, Abdelkader Kadi, told for his part the MPs that the government of Japan had asked Algeria to allow more time for the Japanese building company “Cojal” to find a solution to its lingering dispute with the Algerian highway construction company over the delayed construction of the second section of the East-West highway in Algeria.
He also said that the “Cojal” company was now seriously envisaging to bring this vexed issue before an international arbitration court for a final ruling.
