Housing: New city in Oran, Annaba, 60.000 houses in Algiers

Authorities of Algiers succeeded in providing 600 hectares, to accomplish the equivalent of 60.000 new housing units in several locations on the outskirts of the capital, which extends to Blida (west) and Boumerdes (east), Housing and Urbanism Minister, Abdelmadjid Tebboune said on Wednesday.

The minister added, on the sidelines of a meeting with a delegation of Italian companies of construction and contracting, at the headquarters
of the ministry; “Public authorities are working to overcome the problem of real estate which is oriented for housing at the level of major cities, including the capital Algiers”.

“A new city will be created in Oran (western Algeria), with a population of 60 to 70.000 people, and real estate area of 1,400 hectares in the region of Draa Erriche, in Annaba (Eastern Algeria) will be allocated to establish a new city there, under the new policy which is taken by the government and which aimed to establish new cities”.

“Developed real estates would allow the government to complete the housing projects that were programmed, which consist of 4000 residential units with all the facilities and equipment that are necessary for education, health, security, sports and entertainment”.

“Government will not give any preference to foreign construction companies, regarding rates of achievement, as the same prices per square meter will be applied on the public and private national companies, just like foreign companies, but will higher price per square meter will be applied on facilities (schools, health centers, etc.), as well as works of initialization (such as drainage channels), which allows would allow foreign partners to access to a very acceptable profit rate as they will realize projects allowing them to compensate the difference in profit between residential buildings and appendices that provide modern lifestyle and international standards”.

“Applied price per square meter range between 36 and 40.000 dinars (the equivalent of 360 and 420 euros), and it is different according to regions and hard terrain. The high price of achievement compared to the beginning Millennium due to the high cost of production in recent years because of the rising prices of raw materials, including cement, iron and review of the minimum wage. The price of real estate which is provided by the state is still supported”.
