Mayors call for governor’s intervention to stop farmlands misappropriation in Algiers

A number of mayors of Algiers have called on the governor, city planning department and the agriculture and rural department of Algiers to intervene at earliest to bar the real estate mafia from holding sway on thousands of hectares with symbolic dinar in exchange.

  • Sources revealed to Echourouk that some 9 localities in 13 that numbers the capital city Algiers are concerned by this large –scale trafficking including Al Makaria, Birkhadem, Saoula, Bir-Touta, Ain – Benian, Douera, Draria and Kheraicia.

  • In one of the correspondences sent by the mayor of Birkhadem to the governor of Algiers, this later has requested an immediate intervention from the local authorities to prevent those tycoons from seizing farmlands to erect buildings without prior permission from the relevant authorities.

  • The mayor of Al –Makaria has called on the governor of Algiers to intervene at earliest with the view to curbing the activities of the real estates mafia that seized 13 hectares of land located near the wholesale market to transform them to a commercial zone.

  • To recall, security forces have started an investigation on 17 municipalities in the capital city Algiers where several farmlands were misappropriated and turned to huge real estates properties  with the complicity of the local authorities.
