A sit-in of public practitioners near Government Office today

National union of public health practitioners said on Wednesday that general practitioners, pharmacists and dentists to mark a sit-in in front of the Government Office, today.

  • The union further threatened to freeze up hospitals nationwide by starting an unlimited strike as by next month, simultaneously with the strike of resident practitioners, in case the Health Ministry does not meet its one-year long promises.
    Head of the union, Lyes Merabet, said on Wednesday that a coordination meeting had been held two days ago between unions representing different health divisions. The meeting aimed at organizing a unified protest move as by the beginning of next month, to start by sit-ins inside hospitals, and in front of official institutions, including the Ministry of Health, Government Office, the Parliament and President Office. This protest move will be culminated in an unlimited strike, Mr Merabet added, and likely to freeze up hospitals nationwide, to press the government meeting the sector’s 5 year claims.
