A University teacher found dead at her home in suburban Algiers

A history teacher at Algiers 2 University and member of the national coordination for change and democracy (CNCD), Aïcha Ghettas, was assassinated in her flat by still unknown assailants in the district of Mohammadia on the eastern outskirts of Algiers.

• It should be noted that her twin sister Chérifa, aged 50, had repeatedly sought to get her on the phone but to no avail.

• Several versions have been suggested about her assassination. Some say that she had received a hammer blow on the head by an intruder and others surmise that she had been stabbed with a knife several times.

• Immediately after the discovery of the heinous murder, the elements of the security services rushed to the spot to carry out their investigations.

• According to Mr. Rachid Malaoui, chairman of the SNAPAP Union, late Aïcha Ghettas was a member of the CNCD before its splitting.

• He said that they were awaiting the outcome of the ongoing police investigations in order to establish the exact circumstances surrounding her shocking assassination.

• The victim, who was highly regarded by her University students and by all her neighbours, was buried in her home-town of Berrouaghia in the central province of Médéa.
