“I haven’t resigned,†says PM Ouyahia
Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia has denied on Wednesday his intention to resign.
- Ouyahia, who is also the Secretary General of RND, one of the three-party alliance in power, told the government-run TV: “I’m serving Algeria; I’ve never resigned though, and whenever I’m removed from office, I would never choose the opposition camp.”
- As for his ambition to become a President, Ouyahia has preferred quoting former French President Valery Giscard D’Estaing who said when asked how he reached Presidency: “It’s an encounter of man and his fate!”
- Ouyahia has further rejected opposition’s calls to dissolve the Parliament and establishing a constitutional council instead, saying: “Algeria has already gone through such phases, and there’s no need to experience them once more.”
- Finally, Ouyahia responded to Head of MSP, Abou Djerra Soltani, his partner in the three-party alliance in power, who threatened to withdraw from the alliance. “The Presidential Alliance has been dictated by the political rapprochement between FLN and RND, as for the presence of MSP in this body, it is a mere tribute to late Mahfoud Nahnah (creator of MSP), who gave a lot to this country.”
