“I will resume playing in September,” says Algeria’s Meghni

Algeria’s striker Mourad Meghni tells about the knee surgery he underwent in Paris, a few days before the World Cup starts.

  • Meghni told Echorouk he decided to undergo the surgery as he found himself incapable of playing the World Cup matches. “The surgeon talked to me immediately after the surgery and told me it was conducted in the best conditions.”
  •
  • He added that the president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) Mohamed Raouraoua and some members of the technical staff called him. “I talked with the players who showed solidarity with me and promised me to honour Algeria in the South Africa.”
  •
  • Asked about his club Lazio, the player said he did not contact the club’s managers but he will call them soon to tell them about what happened. “I will send them all the medical reports as agreed on.”
  •
  • He added that he will come back to competition in September. “I don’t have an exact date but I need to have a rest for three or four months to come back to competition.”
  •
  • “I may resume playing officially in September.”
  •
  • He said he is sad for not playing in the World Cup matches. “I have not decided yet whether I will move to South Africa to support the Algerian team.”
