“Our problem is with evangelists, Christians are free in practicing their rites,†says Belkhadem
Algerian President’s personal representative Abdelaziz Belkhadem said some have intentions to internationalize the trial of Christians who violate the law. “Algeria applies the law on Muslims and Christians in the same way. The State is not tolerant with Evangelists who do not respect the law,†he said Monday.

“Those who talk about restricting belief liberty do not know anything in the system in Algeria which does not make any difference between Muslims and non Muslims,” he said on the sidelines of the opening of Notre Dame D’Afrique Church in Algiers.
“Associations which want to build a mosque should submit a request, a file and, an accreditation and permit request to construct the mosque,” he added.
“The problem is the secret evangelisation not allowed in Algeria. I am sure that the Vatican does not accept that.”
Belkhadem also said Algeria is a tolerant country and it is a tradition in the Nation’s moral according to our religion. “Allah said tell people and he did not say tell believers.”
“Those who seek to restrict personal liberties are not tolerant. As for the blasphemous cartoons, they said it is freedom of expression. When it comes to Wikileaks, its founder was jailed.”
Algerian religious affairs ministers said the State offered 51 million DZ to restore the Church. “On the other hand, Islam is fought in Europe and France in particular.”
“We show to the world that Algeria is the cradle of freedom of religious rites practice in the world for Muslims and non Muslims in the frame of the law,” he added.
