AFRICOM commander visits Algeria
General Carter Ham, commander of US Africa Command (AFRICOM)
Commander of US Africa Command (AFRICOM) General Carter Ham arrived to Algeria Tuesday on a two-day visit in order to hold talks with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the foreign minister Mourad Medelci, the delegate minister in charge of African affairs Abdelkader Mesahel and the deputy minister of National Defence Abdelmalek Guenaizia.
- The talks are about military cooperation between Algeria and AFRICOM, issues of common interest on the regional and continental levels, the threat escalation of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
- Carter Ham will end his visit by a press conference on Wednesday at the US embassy in Algiers.
- According to the US embassy’ release, Ham’s visit is part of regular consultations between Algiers and Washington.
