Air Algérie aircrew launch a strike
Algiers-Air Algérie aircrafts were grounded at the International airport Houari Boumediene after a call to strike by the National Syndicate of the aircrew here on Wednesday.
No plane has departed from Algiers International airport and angry passengers have complained on the national radio that they have been notified of the cancellation of their flights.
The strike was ruled illegal by the Algerian authorities, according to Air Algérie statement on Tuesday. The national company had filed a complaint against the perpetrators of such notice.
In a memo to 800 members of the commercial aircrew, stewards and stewardesses the CEO of Air Algérie Abdelawhid Bouabdellah described on Tuesday the strike call as an attempted manipulation.
According to the CEO, authors of the strike notice have been received at their request on June 13 to present their claims.
