Air Algerie stewardesses warn over strike

Commercial aviation mariners may go on strike because of a number of problems related to their union, salary and bonus, their union’s president said.

• The salary of about 800 stewardesses and ground attendants working for Air Algerie are not in the same level as their counterparts in sister and neighbour countries, Yacine Hamamouche told Echorouk.

• He added that stewardess earn 230 DZ per hour while beginners earn 117 DZ. There is no bonus system for this category.

• The union asked for revising salaries and take in consideration experience and timing. “Salaries can not be maintained as they were in the 1990’s. The salaries of all the company’s workers changed but the aviation mariners.

• Yacine Hamamouche said stewardesses and ground attendants who have 10-year-experience earn 45,000 DZ only while they work for more than 8 hours.

• He also talked about a parallel union. “Air Algerie deals with it because it is pro-administration.”
