The body of revolutionary and leader Hocine Ait Ahmed was brought to his native town in Algeria on Friday. He will be buried in his mother’s tomb after a rich life of sacrifices.

Ait Ahmed passed away on December 23th at his home in Switzerland after a long struggle with disease. Algerians and his party partisans were shocked by his death.

Echorouk has learnt that retired general Toufik was among the first people who arrived to Ain Hammam, the late leader’s native town to attend the funerals.

Ait Ahmed’s death raised a conflict among authorities and his party (FFS) about his burial place. His family intervened and imposed his testimonial as he chose to have national funerals.

Authorities in race with time for funerals

Authorities mobilized all the necessary means to prepare Ait Ahmed’s village to receive his body.

Instructions were given to more than 30 neighboring municipalities to clean the village and repair the road for helicopters. Works started as well in the family’s cemetery ahead of burial. Local, national and international media were also present to cover the event.
