Commander of the National Gendarmerie Menad Nouba

Commander of the National Gendarmerie Menad Nouba Monday sounded the alarm about the rise of traffic accidents due to alcohol and drug consumption. Hundreds of Algerians are killed and thousands of them are paralyzed due to road accidents.

“Although the State have made enormous efforts for years, traffic accidents are on the rise. Unfortunately, our country suffers from considerable human and financial losses,” said Menad in an international conference.

“Alcohol and drug consumption doubles the danger,” he added.

He also said the National Gendarmerie forces work on 85 percent of national roads network.

“They have to cover all the awes and points by establishing new specialized units,” he said.

Centers for information and traffic coordination have been created. They are equipped with sophisticated technical devices and cameras to keep watch on traffic and collect information for treatment.
