Algeria: 600 municipalities exposed to floods
A total of 600 municipalities out of 1,541 in Algeria need urgent projects to face big dangers. The Algerian interior ministry gave instructions to all the prefects to launch prevention campaigns and be ready to all the possibilities ahead of Winter.
National delegate for big dangers at the ministry Tahar Melizi said a national study showed that 600 municipalities in the country need projects to enhance their capacity of facing big dangers including floods.
“The interior ministry ordered all the provinces to launch prevention campaigns and be ready to all the possibilities,” he said on Friday in a conference in Bechar (south of Algeria).
Earlier in October 2008, Bechar was hit by heavy floods.
Algeria allocated more than 1 billion DZ as part of a sectorial program to protect some local governments from floods.
