Algeria : 900,000 anti-Foot and Mouth Disease vaccine doses distributed

Algerian agriculture ministry received 900,000 doses of anti-Foot and Mouth Disease vaccine and transmitted them to 7 regional laboratories. They were distrbuted on Thursday while sheep farmers will be compensated by 80 percent.

« Vaccines will reach vet departments in a regular and gradual way. They will all be distributed by August, » said General Observator of vet departments at the ministry Abdelmalek Bouhabal.

Foot and Mouth Disease cases were found in 19 provinces.

« Awarness-raising campaign among sheep farmers in coordination with media gave good results, » said Bouhbal.

« Although there was a lack of vaccine sin the last few days, vaccination process did not stop in different provinces and will continue until this contagious disease is eliminated, » said the ministry.

Another vaccination campaign will wtart on Friday or Saturday to protect safe sheep from this dangerous disease.
