Algeria: Baghlia Mayor assassinated by terrorists

The town of Baghlia, east of Algiers, was plunged into a state of shock in the aftermath of the horrendous assassination the day before yesterday by a group of terrorists of the Mayor of Baghlia, Idir Mohamed, at around 9hours p.m after the Isha prayer.

• Just after getting out from a local mosque where he had accomplished the late-night Isha prayer, the Baghlia Mayor was shot dead by three armed terrorists, according to eye-witness accounts.

• Taking advantage of the panic after the firing of the gunshots which took the life of the Mayor, the three terrorists managed to escape in a waiting car parked nearby.

• Immediately afterwards, the security forces launched a large- scale combing operation in the whole region to track down those behind this heinous assassination.

•  The assassinated Mayor was buried yesterday in a Boumerdes cemetery in the presence of a large crowd of citizens including his relatives, friends and local officials. Echorouk’s reporters were also present during the funeral ceremony.

• The late Mayor, aged 47 and father of three children, was known for his integrity and rigour.
