According to well informed sources, the investigating magistrate of the locality of Hassi Messaoud( southern Algeria) has started hearing the convicts involved in the blasphemous cartoons that targeted the prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) and those that blemished the person of the Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

The case was reported in-depth by “Echourouk” newspaper last January, when a scandal shook the US oil company” Global Geophysics” following the posting of subversive cartoons by some employees inside the company. Corroborating sources, revealed that a former Algerian manager working within the company, who discovered the cartoons and lodged a complaint against the wrong doers. The complainant gave a complete description of the facts to the judge and the way they beamed the cartoons as well as the stratagems used by the convicts to deny the facts. In a previous declaration to our newspaper, the attorney general said that a complaint had been lodged and the competent judicial authorities will follow up the case and rigorously implement the law against the wrong doers.

The scandal broke out when the US managing director posted blasphemous pictures of the prophet (PBUH) to his colleague who, in his turn, forwarded them to friends working in other foreign companies. The pictures were aimed at blemishing the image of the prophet and Islam as well as undermining the Muslims’ unity. This case coincides with the latest evangelization campaign led by Western churches including Germany, which is calling for the republishing of the previous blasphemous cartoons putting forth the argument of freedom of press
