Algeria can not transport mercenaries to Libya, says National Council spokesman

Algeria is a key country and can not carry Gaddafi’s mercenaries, according to Mustafa Abdel Jalil, the country's former justice minister, a spokesman for the National Libyan Council.

  • Mustafa Abdel Jalil told Echorouk the Council did not release any official communiqué to accuse Algeria of transporting mercenaries to kill Libyans. “We are total sure that Algeria is a major country and it can not be involved in such matter. There is no fixed number of Gaddafi’s militias but I believe that they are more than 5,000 and they are still coming.”
  •
  •  The National Libyan Council’s spokesman asks the international community to enforce travel ban against Gaddafi. That would prevent him from bring other mercenaries to Libya from Ghana, Kenya and other countries.
  •
  • According to him, there are neither parties nor sects in Libya. The country is under dictator ruling. The eastern region is now under revolutionaries’ control. “Gaddafi is hiding in Tripoli and the regime will not collapse if the capital is not toppled. He granted Libyan nationality to a large number of mercenaries because he did not trust any Libyan.”
  •
  •
  • Abdel Jalil has been a judge for 2 years. He said he started with Saif El Islam reforms and paid three billion Libyan dinars compensation.
  •
  • The compensation touched people who were deprived from their properties by the State, persons who were jailed for years without trial and people who died in prison.
  •
  • We tried to make real reforms. They started being fruitful as there was opinion freedom to some extent. There was an independent satellite channel but Gaddafi reduced those reforms. That led to the current situation,” he said.
