Algeria catches 500 people trying to immigrate illegally

The national defence ministry’s releases show « heavy » figures about illegal immigration attempts on « death zodiacs.” Cost guards Sunday caught 108 people trying to smuggle themselves on hand-made boats in the provinces of Oran, Ain Timouchent, Mostaghanem, Annaba and Taref.

According to the ministry, more than 500 attempts were foiled in September.

The National Gendarmerie forces also arrested smugglers and seized 852 bottles of drinks in the provinces of Sidi Belabbes and Tiaret.

A drugs trader was caught on Sunday in the province of Hassi Messaoud.

As part of borders protection and fighting organized crimes, the National Gendarmerie forces foiled an attempt to smuggle 80 tons of food, drinks and cleaning products in the south of Algeria.
