Algeria celebrates International Mountain Day

ALGIERS- Algeria celebrates the International Mountain Day Saturday 11 December through different activities relating to the theme “Rural revival in the service of populations in mountainous areas,” Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said.

The official celebrations will being held in the province of Tizi-Ouzou (around 103-km south of Algiers), with a rich programme of activities has been prepared throughout the 48 forest conservations, in collaboration with institutions and associations involved in the development of mountainous areas, the source added.

Celebrated this year under the theme: “Mountain Minorities and Indigenous Peoples,” the International Mountain Day aims at getting mountain populations further involved in the preservation and development of these areas, and at strengthening communities’ actions within the framework of a partnership for the sustainable development of the ecosystem.
