Algeria: “Death of over 5 thousand Harraga or illegal immigrants since 1992”
According to latest statistics released by “El Djeich” News Magazine, about 7 thousand harraga or illegal immigrants are registered every year across Algerian territory.
-
Around 70 thousand illegal immigrants eager to reach the other shore of the Mediterranean basin have been identified over the past ten years by the relevant security services in charge of the vexed clandestine immigration file.
-
- According to these statistics, more than five thousand harraga or illegal immigrants have unfortunately perished in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea since the year 1992 on board their makeshift and derelict boats.
- The Algerian immigration services have also succeeded in transferring back home hundreds of African immigrants who were seeking to cross illegally into Europe through Algeria‘s western border with Morocco precisely from the border town of Maghnia.
