Algeria denies involvment in mercenary operations in Libya
Algeria denied that it participated in mercenary operations against revolutionaries in Libya, said communication director at the foreign ministry Ammar Bellani in response to reports about Algerians working with mercenaries.
- “Algeria has signed the Anti-Mercenary Convention. Because of that, it can not participate in those operations,” Ammar Bellani told Echorouk.
- This comes as the French news agency APF reported that Libyan revolutionaries had arrested 15 Algerian mercenaries and killed three others in Adjdabya.
- The agency cited a spokesman for the revolutionaries who said the arrested mercenaries did not have any identity documents but they were Algerians and they had an Algerian accent.
- The spokesman told the AFP Algerian identity cards and passports were found next to a building in Adjdabya.
