Algeria: Dismissed policemen ask for presidential amnesty
Dismissed policemen who staged a sit-in in Algiers on Sunday refused to be received by the national police chief Abdelghani Hamel asking for a written decision to reintegrate them.
- More than 500 dismissed policemen staged a sit-in in the Place des Martyrs asking for reintegration in the form of a presidential amnesty as part of the National Reconciliation.
- They also asked for financial compensation for their anti-terrorism acts in 1992-2002 and accommodations provided with the job for married policemen.
- The protesters raised slogans condemning injustice and oppression while other slogans called on President Bouetflika to give them their rights as part of a “national reconciliation for every one.”
