Algeria-France Cooperation: “Peugeot Project Postponed”

Participants in the proceedings of the Algerian-French Joint inter-governmental Committee held on Sunday at the conference hall of the Aurassi Hotel in upper Algiers were utterly surprised by the postponement of the date of the implementation of the project of the Peugeot car-assembling factory due to be established in Algeria.

The agreement of the project, to recall, was due to be signed by the Algerian and French Prime Ministers, respectively Abdelmalek Sellal and Manuel Valls on the occasion of the latter’s official visit to Algeria.

As a matter of fact, the signing of the agreement for the implementation of the PSA Peugeot-Citroën factory in Algeria, initially scheduled for Sunday, April 10th, at the Algeria-France summit was put off to a later date, announced the Minister of industry and Mines, Abdeslem Bouchouareb, adding that the finalized projects including that of PSA Peugeot-Citröen factory, will be formally signed in the near future, without specifying any dates to this effect.

While everyone expected the Algerian PSA plant that will manufacture such vehicles as the Peugeot 301, the Peugeot 208 and the Citroen C Elysee whose production is scheduled to start by the end of 2018 and early 2019, the signing ceremony of such a much-awaited accord didn’t finally took place.

Mr Abderrahmane Benhamadi, Condor Electronics CEO is among the partners in the PSA project and the other shareholders are Peugeot, PMO Constantine and a private company of medicines.

The participants were surprised by the unexpected postponement but were even more baffled by the inking on the occasion of an agreement for the production of mayonnaise between the French “Lesieur” company and Algerian firm “Gadi”.
