Algeria gives a deadline of six months to put Halal label on food products

The government gave a deadline of 6 months to producers to put Halal label on food products. Label-related conditions and terms were posted on ministries’ official website along with the list of food products.

The label should be approved by a national organization which issues a conformity certificate.

Halal conformity certificate of imported food should be issued from qualified organizations and recognized by an Algerian commission.

The Algerian commerce ministry will establish a national commission to follow up procedures. It will be in charge of examining Halal conformity certificates and requests from foreign organizations.

The commission will be headed by the commerce minister. It will include members from the industry, religious affairs, agriculture, health and housing ministries, representatives of the Higher Islamic Council, the Accreditation Algerian Organization, the National Institute of Industrial Property, the Algerian Centre of Quality Surveillance, Pasteur Institute and the National Institute of Taxonomy.
