Algeria has always supported Arab causes, says Mustafa El-Feki

No one can oblige Algeria to prove its Arabism and support to the Arab causes, Dr. Mustafa El-Feki, Egypt's candidate for the post of Secretary General of the Arab League said in response to accusations launched by Libya’s council against Algeria.

  • Mustafa El-Feki told Echorouk no one can have doubts about Algeria’s Arabism and nationalism because it has always supported Arab causes. “Its ambassador to Cairo said the future Secretary General of the Arab League should not have visited Israel before.
  •
  • He also said he had a bad relationship with the former Egyptian regime. He has not been allowed to write since 2008 and was dismissed from the National Party in 2004 because he refused to visit Israel.
  •
  • “I faced hindrances in all my professional life and there is nothing in my history which I am ashamed of.”
  •
  • El-Feki said if he is elected at the head of the Arab League, he would examine economic and cultural issues and try to reduce the gap between the Arab nations.
  •
  • Asked about the Arab League’s position towards the Arab revolutions, the Egyptian official said things changed after the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt. “We should understand the revolution spirit and open doors to youngsters. It is People’s will which imposes itself.
  •
  • He believes that the Arab League should listen to the new generations’ voice and satisfy their demands “because we enter a new era.”
  •
  • El Feki said Israel is a hostile and racist country. “All it seems that hope in peace with it is limited and is almost a mirage. Israel should change its mentality so that it will fit the Arab League’s demands.”
  •
  • “I believe that all the Arab conventions with Israel should be revised including the military presence in Sinai. We should not think that those treaties hinder the Arab will because we will say yes or no at the opportune time.”
