Algeria has no other choice than nuclear energy, says minister

Algeria does not have any other alternative expect nuclear energy to produce electricity, Algeria news agency APS reported on Monday citing energy minister Youcef Yousfi.
- “We may have recourse to nuclear energy in long term. We do not have any other alternative,” Youcef Youcfi told Parliament’s members.
- “Algeria must prepare itself to this choice. We need 10 to 15 years to conduct studies for the construction of the first power plant working by nuclear energy,” he added.
- Previously, Algeria announced it would construct its first nuclear plant by 2020 and was expected to build e new plant every five years starting from that date.
