Algeria Imports Over A Million Tons Of Gasoline Annually

Oil price’s decline is directly caused by the large abundance of production in oil market, Energy and Mines Minister, Saleh Khebri, said during the two-day work and inspection visit to Djelfa (southern Algeria), on Saturday.

“Supply, demand and geopolitical conditions control the oil prices, and the outcome of the Doha meeting, which will be held on April 17, will be the first phase to freeze the production of January 2016. Algeria imports about one million tons of gasoline annually, and the gas is the solution.”

“Next stage will be a follow up to the market, and if necessary to enter another phase, which is the reduction of the production until the absorption of large quantities. Six months ago, Saudi Arabia was not expected to meet with Russia and agree to freeze production. Algeria is not and will not abandon nuclear energy projects, but will use them for peaceful purposes, which is the production of electricity until the diversification of energy sources.”

“Government prepared a program to reduce the use of gasoline, and replace it with gas, so there was an instruction from the Prime Minister to all the ministers, so that gas will be used for all cars of the state instead of gasoline. This allows the reduction of the use and importation of gasoline, because the ability to gasoline production is insufficient, and Algeria imports an additional amount, that is equivalent to one million tons per year, waiting for the opening of two new refineries in Tiaret (western Algeria), and Hassi Messaoud (southern Algeria), which will be in service by 2020.
