The Algerian government issued a new executive decree determining air navigation taxes. It was published on the Official Journal’s last edition. It imposes money payment on passengers to use it in building airport facilities.

The tax will be included in ticket price. Passengers should pay 500 DZ when they take the plane for a domestic trip. If they travel abroad, they will have to pay around 1,300 DZ.

The taxes will be distributed to the National Institution for Air Navigation by 82 percent while the National Office for Forecasting will benefit from 18 percent.

A previous decree imposed taxes on international lines only.

This comes as the government announced its incapability of funding airlines due to oil crisis.

Public enterprises will have to diversify their revenues to avoid bankruptcy.

Algerian transport minister Boudejmaa Talai Monday said the taxes do not directly concern passengers but they will be paid by airlines.

“They will be cut from ticket total price. This is done by many countries,” he told Echorouk on the phone.
