Algeria: Looming changes in the corps of Governors and other local officials

Well – informed sources told Echorouk that the President of the Republic, Abdellaziz Bouteflika, had started examining the files of new nominations in high positions in the State apparatus including Walis or Governors in addition to Secretaries General of various Ministries and heads of administrative districts across the 48 provinces of the country.

The same sources added that the presidential office would spearhead this large shake – up as early as next June.

This planned reshuffle – process is in line with President Bouteflika’s pledge made during last April 29 swearing – in ceremony during which he committed to involving all theAlgerians in the national edification effort.

The same sources also indicated that the projected presidential shake-up movement came under the motto: “Passing on the torch to the youth”, which was repeated by Bouteflika’s election campaign manager, Abdelmalek Sellal, with the aim of injecting fresh and youthful blood into the various state and governmental bodies in keeping with  Bouteflika’s election campaign promises.
