Algeria Parliament should be dissolved, says Soltani

Leader of the Algerian MSP party Abu Djerra Soltani said he is for the dissolution of parliament. “Current Parliament lost its legitimacy because it gave up all its control mechanisms and passed all the draft bills suggested by the government,” he told Echorouk.

• Abu Djerra Soltani said the dissolution should be preceded by the revision of current elections law. “That would enable to grant large prerogatives to elected representatives so that new Parliament would not fall in the hands of money owners.”

• “Parliament should not be dissolved if political money still pollutes elections. Otherwise, coming Parliament will be worse that the current one,” he added.

• Parliament dissolution request was submitted by most of the political compositions represented in the People’s National Assembly (APN).

• The MSP party reduced its support to unlimited presidential terms. “In the past, the party’s position depended on the national tragedy and the state of emergency. Reality now imposes new Algeria where things resume their natural state,” said Soltani.

• He believes that the Constitution global amendment is a realistic request” as “changes made in the 1990’s depended to the state of emergency logic. Now, conditions have changed and there is a need for major amendments.”

• He added that his party “asks for a global revision starting from the introduction. It should clearly speak about the parliamentary system nature and admit a state of freedoms, alternation and separation between powers.”
