Algeria: Plainclothes security men to be deployed in and around schools
The Premiership services have received disquieting reports on the unabated phenomenon of kidnapping in the school environment, then rushed to issue strict instructions to the Ministry of Education and the security services enjoining the latter to sign a “memorandum of understanding” that protects school children from attacks and kidnappings.
So, it was decided to deploy security personnel in and around all educational institutions especially those that have been marked in the “red list” due to the recurrence of this abduction phenomenon.
Reliable sources told “Echorouk” that the latest abduction of a schoolgirl in front of a school in Guelma province, under mysterious circumstances, just before going out into the winter break by unknown persons, has prompted the government to order security services and the Ministry of Education, to sign forthwith a “protection protocol” aimed at sparing school children any attacks inside and in the vicinity of all school establishments starting next January 2016.
These stringent measures taken by the relevant authorities include legal provisions that would deter the abduction phenomenon, through notably the deployment in civil attire of security men, either from the “police or gendarmerie”, each according to the competence of their assigned territory, inside and near all educational institutions without special exception with on focus those schools that have been classified in the “red zone”.
