The government satisfied most of professional and social demands submitted by policemen who have been protesting for three days last week. It did not decided in three demands including the creation of a union and the dismissal of officials.

“A set of measures were taken in three levels: salary, housing and working conditions,” said a release issued on Sunday following a ministerial meeting chaired by Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.

The government highlighted the police forces led by Abdelghani Hamel and recognized their “difficult” working conditions.

It decided to grant indemnity to policemen starting from November. They will also benefit from extra bonus and will have less working hours.

The government said those measures are meant to enable policemen to accomplish their mission properly without any hindrances. They will be protected during their mission by a lawyers’ commission in collaboration with the national police department.
