Algeria raises fines on traffic code violation

Algerian transport minister Boudjemaa Talai Monday said traffic accident fines can be raised as hundreds of people are killed in road accidents.

Talai stressed the necessity of raising awareness among drivers to respect traffic code to save their life. Human factor is the main reason behind accidents, he said on a working visit in the province of Oran.

Asked about austerity policy, he said current economic conditions will have no impact on transport projects in Algeria.

« Enterprises in charge of scheduled projects should respect deadlines, » he said.

He added that contracts will be terminated with enterprises which do not respect deadlines without real justification.
