Algeria raises fuel price and VAT in the early hours of New Year's Day

The government issued the Financial Act 2017 in the Official Journal, imposing taxes raise starting from January 1st. Fuel and buildings conformity certificates price increased. Some provisions will not enter in force until relating legal texts are promulgated. The government is expected to gain 110 billion centimes after revising VAT.

The VAT was increased to 19 percent from 17 percent. A tax of 5 percent is stipulated in the Financial Act 2017 on sold buildings. Conformity certificate prices also went up from 1,000 DZ – 12,000 DZ to 15,000 DZ – 18,000 DZ for houses and from 6,000 DZ – 20,000 DZ to 9,000 DZ – 30,000 DZ for commercial and industrial buildings.

Local consumption tax will increase by 30 percent on luxury products such as 4X4 cars.

The Financial Act has included for the first time an “emergency measure” to grant passports within 8 days in return for 25,000 DZ for a 28-page-passeport, 60,000 DZ for a 48-page-passeport and 10,000 DZ for a lost passport.
