Algeria: residents hold collective prayer and Iftar in response to MAK
A number of residents in the province of Bejaia (east of Algeria) organized a collective Maghreb Prayer on Saturday in response to the MAK’s non fasting activists.
The residents chased the activists who tried to hold their third rally in the fasting month of Ramadan. They set fire on their flags and called for a collective prayer at the Culture House in Bejaia.
They expressed anger over the attitude of the MAK (the Movement for the autonomy of Kabylie) which calls for individual freedoms respect while it did not respect the majority.
A large number of associations asked Bejaia’s prefect to take necessary measures against the MAK’s activists.
“The civil society in Bejaia is against those non common forms and actions meant to trigger conflicts. Those activists do not represent, according to them, even their family and they are strangers,” said a letter sent by an association to the prefect.
