Algeria snatches three special awards at Fespaco
Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso)- Algeria won Friday three special awards at the 22nd Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO), through two feature-length films in official competition for the Golden Stallion of Yennenga, namely “Journey to Algiers” and “Essaha” (the Square).
“Journey to Algiers,” by Abdelkrim Bahloul, was awarded the World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child (WCPRC) and the World Catholic Association for Communication (SIGNIS) award.
“Essaha,” a musical by Dahmane Ouzid, won a United Nations award for its contributions to the fight against poverty. On the sidelines of the awarding ceremony, attended by hundreds of African filmmakers taking part in the biennial of Ouagadougou, Dahmane Ouzid said he was proud of the quality distinction he received.
