Algeria supports NATO choice for political solution in Libya
Algeria announced its support to the NATO’s choice to seek a political solution for the crisis in Libya as the military operations did not resolve the problem.
- “We totally share the political solution. There is no other solution in Libya,” Algerian foreign minister Mourad Medelci said in a joint press conference with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla on Sunday.
- Mourad Medelci did not say whether Algeria supported the Libyan people’s choice in Gaddafi’s departure. “Several interpretations and accusations accompanied the Western air strikes on Libya.”
- He added that the “African Union’s initiative to find a political solution in Libya comes as part of Algeria’s endeavours as it is one of the largest state members in the Union.”
- The minister said his talks with his Cuban counterpart focused on the situation in Libya. “We expressed the hope shared by the Cuban and Algerian delegations in a possible dialogue in this sister country.”
- The Cuban minister said he shares Medelci’s opinion about the situation in Libya. “Cuba has already denounced the danger of any military intervention in Libya. My country is was concerned about the killing of innocent civilians.”
- “People who protect civilians in Libyan are the same who killed more than one million Iraqis and tens of thousands in Afghanistan. They are the same who protect Israel in its attacks on Palestine,” he added.
