Algeria: These are the provinces lagging behind in terms of 4G mobile phone connection

Many Algerian wilayas or provinces across the country will be deprived of the fourth generation (4G) mobile phone connection for other years of service, and this technology won’t be available in some regions of the country, until the fourth and final year of the spread of the 4 G that is by the end of August 2020, with only one phone operator available, while other luckier provinces will enjoy the benefit of the 4G during the first year of coverage to be ensured by the three vying mobile phone operators now active in Algeria.

With regard to the overall operational scheme to be spread across all the country’s various provinces for the launching of the fourth generation mobile phone technology which was devised  and issued by the Post and Telecommunications Authority, and of which “Echorouk” got a copy, it is clear that this new technology extension will witness gross geographical imbalances, and will cover some regions starting from the first-year by the three phone operations combined, while a similar 4 G coverage of other less fortunate areas of the country will be delayed by several years until the year 2020.

Jijel and El Tarf as exceptions out of the country’s coastal provinces

Along the Algerian coast, the provinces of Jijel and El Tarf stand out as sole exceptions among all the coastal regions, as the deployment of the 4 G service for Internet access in these two tourist provinces won’t be ensured until the end of the fourth operational year, that is in late August 2020.

It must stated that what happened with the gross delay in the launching of the third generation technology (3 G) in Jijel province will be unfortunately repeated once again with the new 4 G service, with this eastern coastal province of Algeria remaining dismally without coverage for three years in a row.

According to the forecasts of the telecommunications regulation authority, 12 provinces of the country won’t benefit from fourth generation 4 G technology until the fourth year of its entire deployment, that is by the end of August 2020, for an average of one available phone operator only, and these neglected provinces are Oum El Bouagui, Tebessa, Jijel,  Guelma, Al Bayadh, Illizi, El Tarf, Tindouf, Tissemsilt,  Khenchela, Souk Ahras and Tamanrasset with 7 of them located in the east of the country, two in the south, and three other provinces situated  in the west of the country.
