Algeria to achieve two new extensions in Trans-Saharan project

Algeria will launch two extensions of about 800 km of its part in the 4600-km-long Trans-Saharan motorway project, Algerian public works minister Ammar Ghoul said on Sunday.

  • “Algeria will achieve two new parts of the project along 400 km in bordering areas of the province of Tamnrasset (south of Algiers),” Ammar Ghoul told a conference.

  •  “This kind of projects is a factor of peace, stability and prosperity not only for Algeria but for the countries in the Sahel,” he added.

  • The project is expected to be finished by 2015. About $3 billion were allocated for this part for 2005-2014.

  • The minister said Algeria plans to link the Trans-Saharan project to the motorway between Jen Jen Port and the East-Way Motorway.

  • He added that a project to develop the Algerian part of Tamnrasset along 365 km.
  •  
  • A total of 8,000 km of the project were achieved. Of them, the Algerian part which is estimated at 2,400 km. The unachieved parts are in Niger, Chad and Mali.

  • The Trans-Saharan project will link Algeria to Lagos along 4,600 km. The rest of the project is branches until Tunisia and Chad.
