Abdelwahid Temmar, Algeria's housing minister

Algeria’s housing minister Abdelwahid Temmar announced that 70,000 public promotional houses (LPA) will be constructed in 2018. “Housing programs will be launched next year,” he said on Sunday.

Speaking about the price of AADL2 houses which raised a large controversy, Temmar said the State reduced its subsidy to 5,000 DZ for each square meter from 10,000 DZ. “Yet, it is still an important subsidy for the house total cost.”

This comes as the ministry set new conditions about AADL2 houses as their price will exceed 3,000,000 DZ.

Asked about a possible AADL3 program, Temmar said the State should first respect its commitment to AADL1 in Algiers, Tizi Ouzou, Skikda and Boumerdes as well as AADL2.

“Housing sector remains a priority for the State. The construction of more than 120,000 houses will be launched. Rural houses will also be encouraged,” he told a national radio channel.

According to the minister, a total of 185,000 houses have been built but not distributed yet.

“A budget will be allocated in the Financial Act 2018 for their maintenance delivery. From now on, all the houses should be distributed once they are built,” he added.

He also said the priorities of his ministries consist in launching all the housing programs included in the President’s program. Their number is estimated at 320,000 houses.

“I will follow up those projects to take off any hindrance,” he added.
