Algeria to create five new TV channels
Algeria will create five TV channels including a sports channel, State Secretary in charge of communication Azzedine Mihoubi said Wednesday.

“This new tendency is meant to go with the evolution of the Algerian society in various levels and also to fill up the gap in the digital information,” Mihoubi told a national radio channel.

“Algeria has five channels only out of 650 Arab satellite channels,” he added.

He also said a government working group is detecting the Algerian people’s need to heavy media. “They are working on a study on increasing the number of public TV channels to 10.”

“Algeria has now five channels: ENTV Algerie, Canal Algérie, A3, Tamazigh speaking channel and the Quran’s channel.”

He believes that the creation of a sports TV channels is necessary due to the evolution of sports in Algeria.

“A TV sports channel can provide support to the sporst sector in the country.”
