Deputy Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs Abdelkader Messahel said on Wednesday that Algeria is due to file a report to the United Nations as by on 26 June over humanitarian aids sent to Libya.

Mr Messahel told a press conference that that Algeria has accepted a Libyan request to open a crossing on border with Libya to carry humanitarian aids to there, should it be in Debdab crossing point.

As for allegations over a role of Algeria in backing Muaamar Gaddafi’s regime, Mr Messahel said his country “respects the international legitimacy and committed to all UN resolutions, and this is the reason why we requested to send observers to control activities Algeria makes in the frame of aiding our brothers in Libya, and whether such humanitarian activities are complied with international resolutions.” He further specified that Algeria is due as by 26 June to file a detailed report to the United Nations over its humanitarian aids sent to Libya.

He further specified that Algeria still believes in the African Union peace road map as an efficient solution to the Libyan crisis. “We call for an inclusive dialogue in Libya with the participation of all Libyan parties to reach a peaceful settlement of the crisis,” he said in this regard.

Mr Messahel said that Algeria is in contact with all Libyan parties as part of efforts to find a peaceful solution to the crisis.

On another side, Mr Messahel said he has reaffirmed to General Carter Ham, Chief of US Command for Africa (AFRICOM), the firm position of Algeria “rejecting any foreign intervention in internal affairs of nations,” in reference to the NATO intervention in Libya.
