Imene Houda Feraoun, Algeria's post minister

Algerian post minister Imene Feraoun said a draft law on post and electronic communication will be presented to cabinet soon. Important changes will be made to the law such as opening competition in telephone Internet service to private operators.

Asked about reasons behind the non determination of rules on post and telecommunication actions, the minister said a law will be examined by the government and will be presented to Parliament in the next few months.

She added that some changes were introduced to the law. Its appellation was changed to Draft Law on Post and Electronic Communication from Draft Law on Post and Telecommunication.

This law will open local network to private operators to reduce Internet tariff.

Speaking about a delay in delivering cheques to Algerie Post’s clients, she said there were mistakes in addresses. A total of 15 percent of those cheques were destroyed because they belonged to unknown people. A total of 40,000 cheques are issued per day.

“It is a normal number as Algeria Post’s clients are estimated at more than 18 million. This enterprise was improved compared to previous years,” she told members of Parliament.
