Algeria to print new notes to end liquidity problem

New notes will be printed in Algeria following the lack of liquidity in post offices in Algeria which caused protests and skirmishes between citizens and post workers.

  • The Algerian post minister Mohamed Ben Hamadi told reporters employees who benefited from pay raise go to post offices to get all their money from their accounts. That caused liquidity problem.
  •
  • “Algerie Poste is working on meeting all the increasing needs. It is impossible to continue in this sense. People should be regular when they get their money from their accounts,” he said.
  •
  • A large number of people complain of the lack of liquidity. Some post offices limited the sums to 25,000 DZ and 35,000 DZ.
  •
  • A previous strike of Algerie Poste’s workers had an impact on money withdrawing process.
