Algeria’s religious affairs ministry plans to impose sanctions on tour agencies which do not offer suitable services for pilgrims.

Mohamed Aissa said his ministry will release new specifications to sue agencies which do not offer suitable services for pilgrims.

“The Omra-related specifications will enable the ministry to sue tour agencies for not respecting the conditions and oblige them to pay compensation,” he told journalists.

“Those specifications will push agencies to preserve Algerians’ dignity,” he added.

The Haj and Omra National Office’s statutes will be revised so that it will reach “professionalism and some administrative procedures will be eliminated.

He also said Haj season this year was 90 percent successful. An annual ministerial meeting will be held late in January or early in February next year.

The ministry will send a convoy to raise awareness among schools and cultural institutions about fighting crimes.
