According to security sources quoted by Echorouk newspaper, forces of the national popular army have put out of action 25 terrorists as part of a long-running combing operation conducted in mountainous areas near the small locality of Zekri in Tizi Ouzou province, about 120 km east of Algiers.

According to security sources quoted by Echorouk newspaper, forces of the national popular army have put out of action 25 terrorists as part of a long-running combing operation conducted in mountainous areas near the small locality of Zekri in Tizi Ouzou province, about 120 km east of Algiers.
The 25 terrorists belonging to the so-called Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb have been tracked down for several days by the ANP troops who have earlier barred all access routes to and from the targeted mountainous region as part of a tight stranglehold.
The ANP forces reportedly used heavy weaponry including missiles and helicopter strafing in their offensive to dislodge the hunted terrorist group which was hiding in the nearby Bounamane Mountains .
Most of the bodies of the 25 terrorists killed in the operation were found charred or cut to shreds on account of the powerful intensity of the shelling targeting their hide-outs, the same sources indicated.
Several Kalashnikov assault rifles and other weapons were recovered by the Algerian soldiers.
The combing operation was made even more intricate as the terrorists had planted numerous mines in the embattled area in a desperate attempt to check the ANP troops’ steady advance but with not much success.
According to corroborating security sources, the 10 day long anti-terrorist offensive will go on until the elimination of all the remaining Al Qaeda-affiliated terrorists still entrenched in the region.
