Algeria Will Recognize NTC Only Within Unanimous AL and AU Position, Medelci
Algeria would recognize the Libyan rebels’ National Transition Council only within a unanimous decision of the Arab League and the African Union, Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci said on Thursday.
Mr Medelci told a joint press conference held with his French counterpart, Allain Juppe, in Algiers, he rejects analysis that put the Algerian position on the side of Gaddafi regime.
He said “the Algerian position toward the Libyan issue is compatible with those expressed by the AU and the AL,” stressing that “Algiers stick on the African roadmap to peacefully resolve the conflict in Libya.”
Mr Medelci further excluded the possibility to expel the Libyan Ambassador to Algiers, because “Algeria has the full sovereignty to take alike decisions,” stressing that “We are among the few countries of which embassy is still opened in Tripoli, as long as Libya is a member in the bodies of the the UN.”
