Algeria’s Great Mosque does not tempt world big companies

The list of 20 companies competing to win the tender to construct Algeria’s Great Mosque shows that they do not meet standards.

Those companies suffer from financial and legal problems and most of them had achieved some projects in Algeria.

Five companies out of 20 presented dossiers for pre-selection to the construction of Algeria’s Mosque following an announcement made by the national agency for the construction of Algeria’s mosque.

Foreign companies did not prove their efficiency such as the construction of giant architectural projects, 20 years of experience, one billion Euros of sales in the last three years and employment of 2,000 people.

Of them, there is a companies union like Arabian Construction Company of Lebanon which contributed in the construction of Cheikh Zaid mosque in Abu Dhabi and some hotels.

Canadian company SNC Lavalin has taken the lead in projects in Algeria since the complex of Ryad el Fath was constructed and bridges were linked between each other and a new railway was constructed.

Orascom Construction won a deal on the construction of a life base in Hassi Berkine (south of Algiers) and a liquefied gas centre in Skikda (east of Algiers). The Arab building contractors company constructed many buildings in Algeria including the headquarters of the finance ministry. The group formed by three Spanish companies: FCC Construction, Cosider and Haddad group seems to be a union meant to reinforce the place of each company as they suffer from big problems.

The union of the Spanish company with Haddad group to win a deal to construct 185 km of railway between Ghilizane, Tiaret and Tissemssilt and Tizi Ouzou stadium at 34 billion dinars.

So, will those selected companies achieve the project on the fixed deadline of 30 months? Will pre-selection dossiers be meticulously verified?

The announcement of the tender did not attract leading architecture companies which made masterpieces in the world like in Dubai’s buildings. It attracted companies which know what is behind the scenes in the Algerian market and preferred to take advantage of that with the help of their national partners.
